The Notting Hill Carnival is an annual event taking place on the streets of Notting Hill, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London, UK. It is known as the biggest street festival in Brishtain. Every years, the carnival attracts millions people around the world, making it one of the largest street festivals in the world and being the European biggest street festival. The Notting Hill Carnival is a significant event in British culture. In 2006 the public voted the carnival onto the list of icons of England. Notting Hill Carnival’s History
People think that Notting Hill Carnival was held first in 1964, however according to some data dancers with colorful costumes, featured music and pictures of this festival actually appeared in 1966. Carnival has been known as an offshoot of the Trinidad Carnival; it has remained true to its Caribbean roots and bringing a spirit of diversity to London.
When the Notting Hill Carnival first started, around 500 people attended the Caribbean festival. Today it attracts hundreds of thousands to London, and continues to grow in popularity. You can expect to see some 50,000 performers more than 30 sound systems. More than 1 million people attend over the carnival weekend.
The Notting Hill Carnival takes place in two days – final Sunday and Monday of August every year. Sunday is primarily spent for Children and Monday is just legal holiday.
In this day Children showcase their flamboyant costumes dancing along the carnival route to the hypnotic rhythms provided by the mobile sound systems or steel bands. Children and their family will bring to London Street a fun day with real festival spirit.
Monday/ Bank holiday
Bank Holiday is seen as the main parade. People will have chance to contemplate a sea of vibrant colours as 60 bands in magnificent costumes dance to the tantalizing rhythms of the mobile sound systems or steel bands. In the evening, the floats leave the streets in procession and people continue the festivities at the many Notting Hill Carnival after-partie.
In the Notting Hill Carnival
The dancers in brightly colored costumes and bands together with drum trumpet will parade over 5,6km long route which made even more vibrant. Guests can watch the festival show from bars, balconies and along the parade route.
Costumes of the dancers are elaborately designed with beauty as colorful paintings. Costume carnival, Steelband, Calypso, Soca, Static Sound Systems, and Samba dances create characteristics of the festival.
Every years There are hundreds and thousands of people came to London to participate in specific cultural festival of the Caribbean. This makes it become the largest street festival in Europe.
Although The Carnival lasted only two days with mixture of music, dance and colorful costumes however for many people it has become a celebration and reflects the cultural diversity of the Caribbean.
